Snap?

Post by marypryde » Mon Mar 02, 2009 10:33 pm

My curiosity is now killing me. A search revealed 81 matches. Please tell me what it means when you tell each other "Snap!"

Just guessing by the context, it appears to indicate something like "good job!" Is it an SP insider expression or a UK-ism, or maybe geek-speak?

I think you are referring to situations where 2 members have posted almost identical information or replies at about the same time
Am I right?

If so then the reason is simple :
do you remember the child's card game called SNAP ?
where each player puts a card down in turn until 2 identical ones land on top of the other - the player who says [yells] snap! and puts their hand on the pile then gets all those cards - the winner is the one who finally holds all the cards.

Surely the UK isn't the only place that this finger and ear shattering past-time is carried out?

a better explanation is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snap_(_card_game)

Hi Wilma and Mary,
I was about to post the same thing about the card game. I grew up in California, so it can't just be a U.K. thing!

Cheers,
Sarah

When ever two people came up with the same answer/reply at the same time it was always a case of "SNAP".
I.E. great minds think alike

..let's blame my ignorance on a game-deprived childhood (Mom was a teacher) - or on the fact that my childhood was too long ago!

Hi Mary,
I'm sure you were not the only person who was wondering about that... You were just the one who was brave enough to ask!

Snap

So sorry for the deprived childhoods missing out on SNAP.
It seemed fun as a child but it nearly drove me mad playing with my own children, they never tired of it, it was a bit like reading the same favourite book over and over again.
