Hi Cathy,
Welcome to Talking Scot! [talkingscot]
Do you have Catherine's death certificate in Canada to check on who her parents were? If not, perhaps the first thing to do is download her marriage certificate from Scotland's People (link at top of page) which should give you the info you need to trace the family backwards.

All the best,
Sarah

Hi again,

Just doing a search on Scotland's People and gradually narrowing it down, I see there is a marriage for a Samuel Mcmillan to Catherine Hendry in Glasgow City in 1919. That sound about right?

Cheers,
Sarah

Yes, I have the Marriage Certificate, that is them. (County of Lanark)
Govan Parish Church, Glasgow
Catherine Hendry (McMillan) died in 1980, Ontario, Canada
There are just a few of them left and none of them can remember if there were 4 or 5 brothers to Catherine. They can agree there was a Steve, James and Peter.
Other names on the certicate are:
Archibald McMillan
Mary Ann McMillan
M.S. Wilson
James Hendry
Catherine Hendry
M.S. Burns (Deceased)
Samuel McMillan was a Rivetter (Journeyman) (Bachelor) on the certificate
Address on certificate is: 11 Logie Street, Govan, Glasgow
Thanks for any help

Hi again,
This looks like the family in the 1901 census. They were living in Falkirk, Stirling at that time.

1901
Forganhall, Falkirk, Stirlingshire
James Hendry, 38, Head, born Ireland, Iron Moulder
Catherine Hendry, 36, Wife, born Glasgow
James Hendry, 8, Son, born England, Scholar
Peter Hendry, 6, Son, born England, Scholar
Henry Hendry, 4, Son, born Falkirk, Stirlingshire
Catherine Hendry, 2, Daur, born Falkirk, Stirlingshire
Stephen Hendry, 1 mo, Son, born Falkirk, Stirlingshire
Joan Burns, 33, Visitor, born Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Dressmaker

The "visitor" looks like she might be a relative of mother Catherine, since her maiden name was Burns.

Steve, James and Peter are all there, as well as Henry. They seem to come regularly at 2 years apart, so perhaps there were more after Stephen. Or was he the youngest?

One interesting thing is that the two older boys were born in England, so they must have spent some time there in their early marriage. I hope for your sake that James and Catherine married in Scotland, rather than England, since much more information is given on the certificates.

All the best,
Sarah

If they lived in Govan their address would be Harmony ROW .
It does still exist today, but like the rest of Govan, unrecognisable to what it once was.

My Grandparents married in 1925 and they started off married life in number 5 Harmony Row - perhaps they were neighbours!

Now you have the couples parents' names you should be able to trace the Scots marriages through the Scotland's People site and fill in some more names.
