Hi Jan,

The IGI (International Genealogical Index) is an index only. You will not find any of the documents there. The one that you have quoted above is from batch M119675. M119675 is a register (or part of) from Glasgow City Parish, from 1844 to 1850. As it will say on the page that it was extracted from the records, then you can go to the ScotlandsPeople website if you want to see a copy of the original document, on a pay-per-view basis.

The other data on the IGI tells you what microfilm you would need if you were viewing that at a library or LDS Family History Centre, rather than viewing it online at ScotlandsPeople.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Jan,

In addition to my reply above, I would say to you that the IGI is a great free resource for births up to 1874 (more often baptisms pre-1855) and marriages up to 1875 (more often proclamations of banns pre-1855). If you find a result there that you want the certificate form you have already found the year, the name(s) and the place, so it should make the search on SP more economic. The one phrase that you have to see on the IGI is that the index entry there is extracted from the records. The IGI also includes data submitted by individuals. The extracted from ..., or submitted by ... information can be found at the foot of the result page on the IGI. Submitted information may be good, or it may not. In my mind, unless you can find it in the records, it remains unproven.

All the best,

AndrewP
