Post by emanday » Fri Apr 17, 2009 3:05 pm

I've not been able to get on all day so far.

I just keep getting a "link broken" type of message

It's working fine from here (Minnesota). Are there specific databases that aren't coming up or is it the whole site?

Regards,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,

It seemed to be the .co.uk site that was having problems - the .com one is OK.

Now the .co.uk site is working again and is now showing this message...

The Ancestry.co.uk web site will undergo scheduled maintenance on Saturday, 18 April, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. (BST). During that time, some portions of the site may be unavailable. Thank you for your understanding and your patience. Your Ancestry.co.uk team

Maybe they had started a bit early for the UK users

fine for me too. I was just online to delete my tree. I decided not to leave it hanging around as I do not use Ancestry.

The only way to communicate with people is to sign up and being of Scottish decent from myself all the way back to Adam (well maybe not that far!) there are no records of Interest on Ancestry as they are all English based.

So paying the fee simply to send messages it way too expensive.

I have my trees on Ancestry and GenesReunited for the last four weeks. During that time I have had several communications with G.R. people and added to my tree. Nothing has come from Ancestry

Hi David
Should you find you need to use Ancestry for anything you can now get free access at the Mitchell Library.

Re. Ancestry not working etc. I could not access Rootsweb earlier today, and that is al part of the same "empire".
On the .co.uk version of Ancestry it says:

...so there may be something similar going on with the .com version - is it my imagination or does the home page look different now?

Best wishes
Lesley

Thanks Lesley

I am going to wander along to the Mitchell Library tomorrow to see what services they offer. So far all my work has come from ScotlandPeople and a little from G.R.

I would agree. you can do the same thing via Rootsweb. But, if you are researching Scots in the 19th century, the censuses on Ancestry can be a big help since the search is more flexible than that on Scotland's People. It can help narrow down which records you might want to download from SP without spending a fortune.

All the best,
Sarah
