Any tips on visiting the Library...

Post by daj » Fri Apr 17, 2009 8:46 pm

In my visit to the Mitchell Library tomorrow should I focus on anything specific?

I have had a look at their website to see what they offer. All my research to date has been online with ScotlandsPeople -- what should I look into at the Library?

I don't have any specific research needs other than generally tracing ancestors. There are always branches for me to follow but a lot of that I can get from the Statutory Records and OPR online. (so far 171 people on 51 families, all Jamieson)

I'm just not sure what other sources are of value to me

Sorry, I'm a novice.

any tips appreciated

I'd advise you to check out the Poor Relief database - even if you don't expect to find any of your folks there. I didn't expect to find mine either, but there they were nevertheless.

And don't be afraid to ask the staff for advice either, they're very knowledgeable and were very helpful to me.

Have a great day, wish I could join you!

Thanks Ann.

If anyone wishes me to look anything up please let me know. I will be going about noon today.

Being a novice I may not find what you need but I will try
