I am trying to trace the parents of William Braidwood born Peebles 20/5/1768. I have found his birth on the opr's on sp. Well actually it's his baptism. On the first page, the one you pay one credit for it says parent names ND Glenholm / William Braidwood. When I open it the only parent on there is the father William Braidwood. I have tried to find a marriage so I can trace his mothers name but to no avail. Any ideas where I might go to find the mothers name?

Ahhhh, I see, so Glenholm is an area in Peebles

silly me.

Thank you so much for all your help Puffin.

I have just found what I think are Wiliams siblings, all of them born in Kilbocho Peebles. The eldest one Agness born 1757. So, my thoughts are William married their mother sometime just before then. I found 2 possiblities from Edinburgh 1754 and Lanark 1753, (which I see are on your list) I am just trying to narrow the search. I will look into them further.

It is not unusual in the OPRs for the mother's name to be omitted - I've seen that happen in a few different parishes, more so in the 1700s.

Is this also your same William Braidwood, found on FreeCEN?

Age is about right, and location not far from his birthplace?
