McCrea born Ireland died maybe Scotland?

Post by JMac » Wed Sep 16, 2009 10:40 am

Hello to all.
Iam still trying to find the whereabouts of my GG grand father Andrew McCrea and his wife Mary (formerly Leith)
Andrew was born (1901 census.. 1865 in Belfast) but after 1912 I think I have the date correct here for the Ulster Covenant, I can't find any trace of Andrew or Mary, in Larne, Northern Ireland or any of the surounding areas!! even Belfast and Dublin reg offices can't find certificates for them!
is there anybody that could help me try to find out if they moved to Scotland or infact maybe they both died there?
I did write to the Scottish reg office, but my letter came back with just application forms etc.
thank you all for reading this.
Best Wishes
John McCrea

You could try a death search for Mary on Scotlands people's website, using both her surnames.

I tried:
M*cr* [the * are to include Mc/Mac and Rea/Rae]
Mary
other surname Leith
from 1912 - 2006
with a birth year between 1860 - 1870

and 1 match turned up. I didn't check any further but it might be worth a look, omitting a birth year brings up another 2 matches.

Where did their family end up? that could help narrow the field down a little.

Hi WilmaM.

Sorry for the long delay in my reply, just been so busy, Sorry again.
Many thanks for the information on the search you done on my McCrea family (Mary Leith) would it be possible for you to tell me what information you found with regards the search you did? I think you said you had one hit for her name.

Very Many thanks for your help.

John McCrea.

Hello John,
I think that Wilma was just playing with the search function on ScotlandsPeople and did not pay to see the results. I suspect (having duplicated the search myself) that the hit she found was the death in Inverness in 1951 that you refer to on your other post: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=15599

Have you downloaded that death record to make sure it is the correct person?

All the best,
Sarah

Hi SarahND
Thanks for your reply, yes I have since downloaded this certificate and it is the right person, there was another problem with one of Mary's daughters that I think "married" a Thomas Cochrane but I can't find any marriage cert for the both of them!!

Best wishes

Hi John,

I'm not quite sure I'm following this correctly.

In your other post you say Janet married in 1937. There is a marriage in 1937 of a Janet McCrea to a Thomas Cochrane - is this the one you're looking for?

Regards,
Annette
