Hi,
I've used www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, www.tayvalleyfhs.org.uk & www.fdca.org.uk sites to search for burials in Dundee Howff. I've found a few ancestors buried there and all show the burial location as "New Howff 556" which I therefore assume was a family plot.
I'd like to search for others buried in this location but unfortunately the databases on these websites can't search on burial location. As I live in Australia I can't visit the Dundee Archives myself. Is there anyone reading who would be able to browse the burial registers to give me names and dates of burials in cemetery posistion 556 between the years 1832 and 1862?
Regards,
Steve Marshall

Hi Steve
HAve you tried contacting the Friednds of Dundee City Archives directly or Tay Valley FHS. They may be able to help as they have the database.
Best wishes
Lesley

http://www.fdca.org.uk/FDCAHowffInfo.htmlThe Howff File provided here is the culmination of several years' work by volunteers from both the Friends of Dundee City Archives and the Tay Valley Family History Society. The records of The Howff, Dundee's City Cemetery, which are held in the City Archives, were transcribed first on to a card index and then on to a computer datafile. The card index is now held in the Family History Centre.
Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Steve,
I don't know if this will be any help, but if the burial location was in the New Howff then that cemetery unfortunately doesn't exist anymore, so the grave will no longer be there. The 'old' Howff is still there but the New Howff was built over the road from this and a couple of decades or so ago was replaced by Bell Street car park and Abertay University library. A few headstones still remain on the wall at the back of the library but I've no idea what plot number they were.
You might know this already anyway and just want info about who was also in the plot. If this is the case then you might want to contact parks.burials@dundeecity.gov.uk. I emailed them some time ago for information about a plot in a different cemetery and they were extremely helpful and gave me all the info that they had about who was in the plot, date of deaths and burials, etc. Hope this helps a bit!
