The Scotsman - Genealogy Series
Hi WilmaM
I got the Scotsman yesterday and most of the 2 page article was generalities about what could be expected from the new "£1.6 million Scottish Family History Centre, due to open at the beginning of 2007, which will link the two essential resource centres of General Register House and New Register House, at the east end of Princes Street, to create the world's first "family history campus", with a "one-stop" single point of archive access to more than 40 million digitised records."
There's an explanation of how the writer used the post 1855 records to trace his direct ancestors back four generations.
There is also a column of "Tips to help trace your family's history - getting started" which is extracts from Tracing Your Scottish Ancestors: The Official Guide, published by the National Archives of Scotland with Mercat Press.
On Monday: Part Two How to track down ancestors who emigrated plus Getting to grips with genealogy online.
Hope this helps.
Regards.
