Hamilton Currie
Hi there -
A while back, before I joined TS, someone posted some info here on a Hamilton Currie and his wife Sarah. That was my great-great grandfather's name (and I know his wife's name was Sarah, though I don't know her maiden name). I'm still looking for more info, if anyone out there has any on these names. Thanks.

Hi Muggins,
Welcome to TalkingScot.
I'm afraid I don't know anything about your family and I assume you found the postings by Fergie on here... viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4814&hilit=Hamilton+Currie . Fergie's last visit was a few years ago but always worth a shot to send a pm.
By the way, Scotland's People (link at the top of this page) has the Catholic Baptisms for certain periods and parishes. If your Currie's were RC it would be worth a look.
Regards,
Anne H

Re: Hamilton Currie
Hi -
I think I know the one you're refering to....for a while I thought he might be the one (the 'Eaglesham Hamilton''s parents were apparently a John Currie and Elizabeth Fulton) but it seems to me that I found out at some point that the Eaglesham Hamilton's wife's name was not Sarah (don't remember where I saw that!) I was in Eaglesham about 6 years ago and found the grave of the above-mentioned John Currie and Elizabeth Fulton, in the churchyard of The Church of Scotland. I took a picture of it, but as I said, I'm not sure their son Hamilton was my great great grandfather....

Hi Muggins,
Not sure if you saw my post on the other thread: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4814
Since at least some of the children's baptisms appear to be in the Catholic records on Scotland's People, maybe Hamilton's marriage and death are also there. With luck they might give some further information. Unfortunately, only the baptisms are currently online...
Regards,
Sarah

Hi Muggins
I'm also descended through John Fulton and Catherine Currie. Have you tried looking at Hamilton's OPR entry - if there is one? From memory he seems to have been born about 1818.
regards
Andy

Re: Hamilton Currie
There are (at least) 2 Hamilton Curries in Lanarkshire about the same time. The one who was the son of John Currie & Elizabeth Fulton was born in Eaglesham in 1818, married Isabella Maxwell in Glasgow in 1843 & died in 1870 (still married to Isabella Maxwell!), also in Glasgow. Can't help about the other one, I'm afraid.

Re: Hamilton Currie
Hi all,
Has anyone looked at the Hamilton Currie born 1812 in Lanark, Lanark on SP?
His parents are Robert Currie and Anne Paterson, so he appears to be the brother of Euphans who appears on the IGI:
Euphans Currie
Christening 12 Aug 1812
Father: Robert Currie
Mother: Anne Paterson
Hamilton was baptised in June and Euphans in August... so at least one of them can't have been baptised right after birth if they are, indeed, siblings.
There are only these two children to that couple in all of Scotland between 1800 and 1820. But there is an Elizabeth Anderson Currie christened to a couple by that name in Lanark on 28 Oct 1821. Not sure if there are more children that just aren't showing up in the search.
Robert Currie married Ann Paterson about 16 Feb 1806 in Douglas, Lanark according to the IGI (it's extracted, yet says "about" so the date must not be clearly marked on the page)
I wonder if anyone knows anything about this family? They just might be the correct one for the "other" Hamilton Currie.
All the best,
Sarah
