Marilyn, are you under water yet?

Post by speleobat2 » Tue Mar 30, 2010 5:25 pm

Hi Marilyn,

I've been watching the weather reports and noticed that Cranston was having flooding with another 3-5 inches of rain expected.

Is this anywhere near you?

Of course, as small as Rhode Island is, it can't be too far away!

Keep bailing!!!

Hi Marilyn,

I've been thinking about you this afternoon as I helped a friend try to keep water levels to a minimum in her basement. We've gotten off lightly compared to your neck of the woods.

Hope you're not too hard hit, and that any damage is kept to a minimum.

Christine

Hi Carol,

When Noah floated by my office window today, I knew it was time to shut shop and head for the hills. OMG we've had 8 inches of rain in the last two days and more to come. We've not seen the worst of the flooding yet. They expect the Pawtuxet River to peak 10 feet above flood level  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pawtuxet_River
Rhode Island is the smallest state in the United States and we have five counties (shires) all have been claimed a disaster area with hundreds of millions of dollars in damage. My heart goes out to all those who had to flee their homes, some of them under protest. Thankfully, I live on a hill, but I have about six inches of "ice cold" water in my basement. I've lived here for 31 years and this is only the second time I had any water. Its a good thing Mr. Morning bought a new shed and moved most of his toys I mean tools out to the shed. :- Thanks for checking on me Carol :D

Regards
Marilyn

Dear Christine,

I'm so glad to hear you were spared any damage and sorry about your friend. How sweet of you to help her out. I was just down in my basement collecting all the items I told Mr. Morning would float away (but he didn't listen) The water was ice cold. The weather men here in Rhode Island are calling this a once in "500" year storm. Two weeks ago we had a once in "100" years storm, which the state still hasn't recovered from. I took a few pictures of the Pawtuxet River tonight on my way home and hope to post one here later on. But believe me when I tell ya, you had to be there to believe the power behind all that water. [drowning]

Marilyn,

I'm glad to hear that things are still ok with you. Flooding has to be one of the worst disasters, not just for what it sweeps away, but for what it leaves behind! The clean up is awful.

We've had a cold, wet winter, but we live up on a mountain so flooding isn't a concern. Our gravel driveway is starting to look like the moguls on a ski hill though because what little soil we have starts to shift around and slide on the bedrock when we get to much rain!

Hang in there and keep us posted!

Hi Carol,

Hopefully you have a 4x4 to climb those moguls :) I had a gravel driveway once and had it paved over as soon as I saved up my pennies, lol

Here's a little update from the projo.com

What's going on with the weather?

You're suffering flooding and now Scotland and NI are getting blizzards  Apparently the temp dropped to 10 degrees below the same time last year!

Brrrrrrrr Hope it doesn't come down here! The last lot of snow (a wee flurry compared to this) caused chaos.

Here on the East coast of Canada we have had a very mild winter and are experiencing an early Spring. This time last year we were getting 26cm of snow, this year it is 26mm of rain!
I hope everyone survives this bizarre weather that seems to be happening everywhere.
