Burke's peerage

Post by crayspond » Mon Jul 05, 2010 1:03 pm

Hi to all at TS,
I found a few pages online in the google book of Burke's Landed Gentry: The Kingdom in Scotland: 1 (Hardcover) relating to my family name Beveridge. They do not allow you to copy from it.
The problem is it is 48 pounds to buy (when it is in stock) - too expensive for me, especially for 2 pages. Does anyone own this book or know if it is possible to purchase copy pages from it?

Regards
Ailsa

Hi Ailsa
You might find that you can view a copy in a local reference library.
There appear to be online versions too, and I've not looked into this in detail, but I suspect payment may be required for the full entry

Ailsa,

You can purchase 72 hours access to Burke's Peerage for £7.95 here

http://www.burkes-peerage.net/signup-info.aspx

You can do a search first to see what entries are available.

I can see the pages i would like online and enlarge the text with no problem. I could possibly copy it down even though it would take a while!
I thought it would be better if i could print the 1 and 1/2 pages out. I will try the local library and see what they say.

Thanks for the replies,

Ailsa

Learn how to capture copies of the whole screen off your monitor, and then paste them into software such as MicroSoft PowerPoint or most image editors, and print off the resultant screen captures.

The solution I use for copying articles from web pages is Microsoft's OneNote which is bundled with the Home and Student Edition of Office. This allows you to highlight text and drag it into OneNote. A free solution which I have not yet tried is the zotero add in for the Firefox browser.
