Scotlandspeople

Post by steiner » Wed Aug 04, 2010 12:12 pm

Anyone know of any new releases coming up on Scotlandspeople before the end of the year? And if so, what will be released and when.

thanks

Some planned additions and updates are mentioned in the minutes of the last User Group meeting. Select from the list at:

All the best,

Just checked the Scotlandspeople website for the last posting of the user group meeting, the 15th which was dated 10 Dec 2009.

Their meeting time was scheduled to be arranged in March, has this been decided? When will the minutes be available up on the website?

In the minutes I got the impression that the SP website will be re-vamped from 1-Sep-2010. Is this still the case?

There was also a mention of certain upgrades being available from before that date (maybe just for the testers, I'm not sure).

There is less than a month before Brightsolid take over and little has been announced.

I'm desperate to have the valuation rolls & Parish registers available on-line, my credit card might not be too chuffed, but I'm impatient.

I've got no complaints about the website as it stands, it just that they seem to be making schedules and not informing us of progress, not that we're due any official updates but it's nice to to know.
I'd like to be apathetic but I really can't be bothered.

Looking for blacksheep & not finding any with
Groats & Stevensons in Orkney, Hood's in Dundee/Angus, Mclaren's in Clackmannan and Jolly's in Kincardineshire. There may be more!

The parish registers, or OPRs, are already online at SP. The digital version of the Kirk Session records is maybe what you were meaning? I believe they are all digitised and it is possible to view them on the PCs at NAS just now. Same goes for the Valuation rolls - you can view them on the PCs at NAS.

Best wishes

I got an update email from them last week which said there would be "changes afoot" including a new look site "very soon". I'd imagine they'll be including new data - I hope so anyway, I've got a bunch of credits and nowt to spend 'em on right now!

Hi Ann

Don't hold your breath ! <sad g>

While a 'new look' may not be that far away, new data sets won't necessarily be added at the same time.

Such new datasets will be added at some future point, but GROS have a long history of failing to meet long promised dates.

Never mind that, as regards the Kirk Session images, there are major questions yet to be sorted out in terms of how to search and how to pay.

As far as I'm aware, the Kirk Session images can also be accessed from major libraries around Scotland.

The "New Look" site is in the final stages of testing with the additions of the Marriage and Death records from Scottish Roman Catholic parishes that were established before 1855.

The main developments are a radically and greatly improved Search Engine and cross indexed Map references to parishes etc - you won't be disappointed!
Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).

Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.

Hi Andy,

I hope it will include some other Catholic parishes in Greenock, besides St. Mary's. Would love to see St. Lawrence's and St. Mungo's.

Thanks Andy - sounds good. I know we waited a long time for some of the SP data sets - but they did eventually appear. Good things do sometimes come to those who wait.
