Thanks Maureen,

That sorry gave me quite a start when I first heard it on the radio this morning. We’re very lucky that there weren’t a lot of casualties with a jolt so big and so close to a major city. Let’s hope there are no major aftershocks.

Stay away from danger and out of trouble. It’s not for no reason that NZ is known as the ‘Shaky Isles’. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaky_Isles

It was probably caused by Australia moving slightly to the right both politically and tectonically.

All the best,
Alan

They have had lots of fairly large aftershocks all day.
The city of Christchurch is under curfew from 7.00pm tonight til 7.00am tomorrow
morning.

Hope you are well and safe Maureen.I was quite shocked to hear of looters in Christchurch. I don't know why but I always think of Kiwis being such honest citizens.

All are safe. There were no deaths.
The looters statement was a bit over stated.

They now think that it was 3 quakes struck at same time.
All up , there were about 43 shakes through the day!!!!

Been out all day, so only heard about this a few minutes ago from my (new found) cousin in Christchurch. Hope all's well with everyone concerned.

Aw! Blame the Aussies!
We might give the Kiwis a bit of verbal strife, but we really wouldn't want to hurt them.
So pleased that no one was badly injured.

There has been another fairly large Quake in Christchurch this morning 5.1 and people are starting to feel the strain of all this shaking, about 150 of them.
There has also been two in Wellington and two on the East Coast yesterday.
I think all of New Zealand is holding it's breath. I know I have my survival kit ready!!

That's amazing, Roger.

It brings home how frightening it must be for all of you in that area.
Good luck.

Best wishes,
Meg
