Calton graveyard in Abercrombie st Bridgeton/Calton Glasgow has a long history with the weavers buried there, who were killed many years ago.. also Lincolns doctor is also buried there although I havent seen the grave.. its being renovated just now, but not sure exactly what their doing. apart from restoring the wall and path.. maybe if they locked it at night to keep dog fouling etc it would keep tidy and decent.

Here's the words and chords for the old song "Calton Weavers" http://www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/folk- ... Weaver.htm
And a version by Hamish Imlach - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUHDdcwmBVs
That's two folk connections tonight. It must be reminisence time for the silver surfers.

Re: Calton Graveyard in Glasgow
Hi,
For more information about the Calton and its burial ground, Glasgow City Council have produced a booklet called 'Calton Heritage Trail', designed as a walk round the notable sights of the area. The booklet can be downloaded here:
http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/Residents/ ... ntrail.htm
There are others for Bridgeton, Glasgow Green and some of the other parks and areas around the city, including the Necropolis behind Glasgow Cathedral. These can be accessed at the same link as above, but without the /caltontrail.htm bit.
I picked up a couple during a visit to the People's Palace and found them very interesting and informative.
Best wishes
Brian

Re: Calton Graveyard in Glasgow
thanks for that info.. was at the old memorial gardens yesterday where they built a new office and childrens home , due for completion soon.. IN a wee while people will have forgotten that the weavers plaque was ever there.
