can anyone point me in the right direction please. I have hit a brick wall in my tree. My 3rd ggf John Prior was born around 1811 in England. He married Euphemia Saunders in 1848 in Dundee and is on the 1851 census living at Camperdown Court Dundee, occupation seaman. I can find no other trace of him and have checked all the death records on SP. He was dead at the time Euphemia died. His son George was a merchant seaman and I have found him on vessels lists but John is a mystery. Is there any direction I should be heading in. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Sara

Re: john prior
Hi Sara
How many children did they have? Is George the only one? Dates and places of birth for child(ren)?
IGI has Euphemia as Euphan - a related name, for the marriage so she could turn up as either on records.
How old was John in this census?
Any clues at all in the wording of the OPR marriage as to where he was from or what parish he was in at the time?
Best wishes
Lesley

Re: john prior
hello
Euphemia died in 1870 age 53 in the parish of St Mary, death cert says 'widow of John Pryier'
They had two sons, William born 1844 and Geroge in 1851
Euphemia appears on the 1861 census as head of the household, married, living at 4 Meadow Close, dundee
The marriage certificate just say john prior, seaman and Euphan Saundirs, both of this parish
Georges marriage cert 1874 says father is john prior seaman, deceased and his second marriage cert says the same
I cannot find birth records for either george or william
john is 40 in the 1851 census
Any help you can give would be fantastic
