Missing O'Donnells

Post by nelmit » Sun Jul 24, 2011 1:22 pm

Have been able to follow this family from early census records and marriage no problem but I cannot find the deaths of James O'Donnell or his wife Rose Ann O'Donnell ms O'Donnell.

This is the last sighting I have of James and Rose Ann -

1891 Paisley

James Odonnell 53 born Ireland
Rose Ann Odonnell 49 (says born Paisley but she was born at Glasgow)
Annie Odonnell 25 (married John Devine in 1887 and they are together with the children in 1901 at Paisley)
Helen Odonnell 23
Daisy Odonnell 11
Eva Devine 3
John Devine 2
Gertrude Devine 1 Month
Mary Hunter 14
Bessie Hunter 20

Annette

Annette, there is a James O'Donnell died Paisley 1895 aged 55 also a Rose Ann O'Donnell other name McGee died 1891 aged 51,Anderston and Rose Ann O'Donnell other name Gallagher died 1892 aged 49 died Greenock.

There are also other James O'Donnell deaths - fit reasonably with a birth date of 1838 - in Denniston, St Rollox, Greenock etc. (Apologies if the geography is way out - I am more accustomed to Fife, Perthshire & Angus!)

Not sure if any of the above is of any help. I would imagine you have checked these out already. Sorry I can't go any further with them, thankfully the 1st of the month is only a week away. :)

Christine.

Spot on with James in 1895 - thank you so much Christine. =D> His son in law John Devine registered it and I thought I was on to something when he said James was married to Ann O'Donnell but still no luck with her. I have new avenues to explore now though.

Thanks again,
Annette

Annette,

I think this one is yours: SP deaths: Ann O'Donnell, 1899, age 55, Paisley, Renfrew 573/01 1075. Widow of James O'Donnell Informant was son-in-law John Devine.

Carol :D

Edit: It's her. She was living at 85 New Sneddon, same as the 1891 census and her husband was a confectioner.
Looking for: Clerihew, Longmuir/Longmore, Chalmers, Milne, Barclay in Newhills,
Munro, Cadenhead, Raitt, Ririe/Reary

Fantastic Carol! =D> ............................but I still can't find it.

What am I doing wrong???

After looking at the death entry of James in 1895 that Christine found, where John Devine gave the widow's name as Ann, I searched for an Ann but couldn't find one. I also tried finding the daughters Helen or Daisy in 1901 but no joy. So I had decided they had moved from Scotland.

After reading your post of I went happily and searched for a death of Ann* ODonnell/ODonnell then O*Donnell/O*Donnell - no ages - no dates - no places - NO RESULTS!!

Many thanks,
from a very :? Annette

Hi again,

I searched: ODONNELL, no forename, Sex any, 1891 to 1911, Renfrew, Paisley and it came up with three pages of deaths.

Ann is one of three Anns on the first page and the only one age 55. The listings actually show the spelling as O'Donnell. I left the age range and birth year blank.

Try that and see what happens!

Ahhhhhhhhhh I see that she was indexed with only her married (or maiden as they were both the same) name. I was always trying for the 2 surnames for a married female death.

I wonder why SP have not indexed her death with both. :?

Thanks again,
Annette

I don't know about the indexing, but it is confusing when both the maiden and married names are the same!

What are you reading for her mother's maiden name? Almost looks like McGunigle to me?

Cause of death: Cereberal softening sounds like me on a Monday--or any other day that ends in -y!
