Bute S&D

Post by Ann In the UK » Mon Aug 01, 2011 9:21 am

Hi,

I don't suppose anyone knows what happened to Bute Son's and Daughters do they? Haven't been able to access the site in ages.

Regards
Ann

No, still can't get in via the link there. That's just an ad about it via the Isle of Bute site.

Hello Ann,

There appears to be a degree of accessibility via the Internet Archive. The last snapshot of the site appears to have been May 2009. There’s contact info but the email link may not be working. http://web.archive.org/web/200905030146 ... ndex.shtml

Googling strings of text from the snapshot isn’t bringing up the site anywhere.

That may have been the last time a snapshot was taken. It's been up since then. It's only in the last 2 months or so it seems to have gone down. Thought it was my link or a prob with my pc or maybe they'd rebuilt the site under a new name/address. But have been googling to try and get in and got nowhere. Will see if I can find an old email address for them and see if I get a reply.

Thanks Alan.

Hi Anne:

No luck connecting from the link on this page either http://www.isle-of-bute.com/author/admin/ eventhough there is a link to Sons and Daughters.

This is no information (that I could find) on that site to contact the site admin, but there is an option to sign up for updates, which might in turn give you a Bute site contact address when you receive the first update.

Hi Frances,

I found an email address for them earlier and sent a message. Just waiting for response now.

Thanks,

Ann

Got a message back saying delivery to the recipient failed permanently.

That's a shame. It was a useful resource for those of us researching on the island.

Ann

It really was a good site!

I can recall that it was severely hacked some time ago, and then they got it back online for a while. Then it just disappeared again. Maybe they have a Historical Society or something like that, who would be able to help?

The website is back at http://www.butesonsanddaughters.co.uk/ , with a message apologising for lack of access over the past month or so due to the webmaster passing away last month.

I assume that the email address info@butesonsanddaughters.co.uk is now active, but treat them gently as it obviously has taken them major efforts to get up and running again.
