McTaggarts/Royals
I have discovered relations born in Scotland, who went to New Zealand. I have managed to find some very valuable information on some of them via someone in Ancestry.Com. Any research information/websites anyone can pass on for New Zealand Archives and Cemetery details will be gratefully received.

Thanks Maureen. Will look at those links. I hopefully have enough basic information to know where to look.

Re: McTaggarts/Royals
Greetings from New Zealand.
There are many on this site with considerable knowledge of New Zealand, and only too happy to help. Some have more info at their finger tips, but others have a wealth of "local knowledge" Can you please give us some details that you have?
Names, dates, places, if past on, or if possibly still living, a general area / province of interest, then those with knowledge of that area can share info privately by PM [private messaging].
Long weekend here, and the World Rugby finals weekend to boot, so replies may be slow till next week.
Alan SHARP.

Re: McTaggarts/Royals
Thanks for offers from Alan Sharp and nomat. I've done some more digging around since last looking in here and have got some details which may be of help. Owen McTaggart sailed to NZ on the Ruahine in October 1929. He was joined by his wife Jessie and son Owen, aged 1 in August 1930. They sailed on the Mataroa. I have a photo of Owen senior and Jessie's gravestone in Dunedin. I would love to know if there is a way to find records of their son. I did manage to find an electoral roll (1954)for NZ which seemed to indicate he had not married at that point. He may have married later, but would marriage records be available for 1955 onwards? I don't know if he is still alive or not and would love to find out.
Owen McTaggart's sister also went to New Zealand. She married Edward John Royal, (a Merchant Seaman from New Zealand) in Scotland in 1912. They had a son named Edward John Royal, born 1912. Her husband returned to New Zealand, and she went to join him with their son, but as far as I can find out, she didn't find him. I don't know what happened to him. Her son married and had family, but I don't think she married again. I found her on the NZ 1928 electoral roll. Any website links or other areas to find information would be appreciated. I am already a member of Ancestry.Com and think I have probably found as much as I could there on them.

Re: McTaggarts/Royals in NZ
Greetings.
I'm pleased that the ARCHWAY hits that I PM'ed to you were of use. As these records could involve the living, may I suggest that you have a general read through the NZ forum threads on this site, and also on RootsChat. Then you will get to see the regular contributor's specialities, and the records that they have access to. Local knowledge can be ever so helpful. Then arrange to flick that contributor a personal message. If it is a site that you don’t have PM access to, then come back here, because someone will have. Most researchers keep an eye on a number sites, and have access to more than one. We just can not afford to subscribe to them all.
Regards, Alan SHARP.

Re: McTaggarts/Royals
Is this Edward John Royal jr. and wife Bernice buried here?
http://www.waitakere.govt.nz/cnlser/cm/ ... fault.aspx
And Edward John Royal snr. buried here?
http://www.dunedin.govt.nz/facilities/c ... w9MQ%3D%3D
Archway has a 1930 Christchurch divorce for an Edward John Royal and wife Mary Ann. The same site has a 1975 Dunedin divorce for an Owen McTaggart with the wife’s name shown. http://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/Sim ... Results.do
The online NZ marriage index only goes up to 1931. The procedure for getting later records is set out here. (I’ve no idea if there’s an easier way or anything else about getting NZ certificates) https://www.bdmonline.dia.govt.nz/NonHi ... ecords/FAQ
Someone on GenesReunited is looking for this family but I suspect you know about that.
All the best,
Alan

Re: McTaggarts/Royals
Thank you, Alan. I wasn't aware of anyone in Genes Reunited looking for this family but will take a look and see who they are, as I'm a member there. Sorry my response is so late, but I tend to have to put my genealogy on hold now and again due to a VERY busy life here. then I re-visit it when time permit. I'm in the north of Scotland and intend to make a visit to New Zealand to visit the graves of my relatives. If I were to find a living descendant to meet up with, it would be the icing on the cake.

Re: McTaggarts/Royals
Greetings again.
If you look through the NZ and Australian forum threads you see there are a lot of us researching down under, and only too willing to return something, to the pool of knowledge that TS provides.
Therefore while it is not PC to publish a timetable of when you are going to be away from home, I for one would not mind you giving me a heads up, by PRIVATE Message, to see if I will be handy when you are travelling through our locality. I've found local help, when visiting away places, always beneficial, and there is nothing to say your living relatives live any way near, the forbears graves of yesteryear.
Three years ago, I took out a visiting Edinburgh family for a day from Auckland NZ, having travelled up first from the Waikato.
