I have been trying to find out what happened to my partners Grandfather. His name is/ was James Hardie (no middle name) date of birth 6 October 1919. He was married to Agnes Irvine McGill (13/11/21) in 1939 at the Gospel Mission at Tradeston by the Pastor Thomas Todd. One the wedding certificate the address for James was 164 Carnoustie Street and Agnes 110 Renwick Street. Their last known address was 72 Sussex Street Kinning Park in Glasgow (1950). Agnes Irvine McGill died young and her eldest daughter looked after the other children.
Agnes' brother John 'Puddin' Mcgill lived with them. He was deafened by a bomb blast during the war.
The other witness to the marriage of James and Agnes is a William Hardie of 142a Houston Street. I think that may have been James' brother but that's a guess.
James Hardie's parents were Robert Carter Hardie and Clara Williams.
James was a shipyard labourer. I have 2 dates given to me for the marriage. It was either 13th or 30th June 1939. (I think it's the 13th though). One date was given by phone and the other I wrote as I talked to a relative.
James and Agnes had 3 daughters (Agnes 22/3/48, Mary, Rebina). Rebina is deceased. James Hardie attended Agnes' wedding (1971 possibly?) at Govan Town hall Glasgow. No one by then had an address, nor did they realise who he was and his family would like to know what happened to him.
It's taken me months to get this far as I am new to searching and getting information is harder than I realised. Can anyone help me - or point me in a direction to look next as I've run out of ideas.

Re: Tracing a missing Grandparent called Hardie
If you go to scotlands people you can download their marriage certificate which will confirm his parent's names.
I did search there for a death of a James Hardie born 1919~ with a mother's maiden name of Williams - but drew a blank.
If he died in Scotland [ if he isn't still alive] he may be one of the few wih an unrecorded mother's maiden name - or maybe it's not Williams?
Searching for such a 'recent' person isn't easy - in fact I think it's probably on the wrong side of TS cut off dates.
