Hi,
Do you have to make a reservation to do research at the Mitchell Library? I'm coming home for a few weeks in October, not sure I can make it the NRH in Edinburgh but I know I will be in Glasgow, and need to know if I should book a seat.

Re: Mitchell library
Hi Ina,
The following webpage gives the opening hours and costs for the "Registrars Genealogy Centre" at the Mitchell Library.
http://www.glasgowlife.org.uk/libraries ... fault.aspx
Hopefully someone who has been there can give recommendations of whether or not to book. If your time in Glasgow is short, it may be prudent to book, rather than be disappointed if they are busy.
All the best,
AndrewP

Re: Mitchell library
Always best to book if you know when you'll be going Ina. You can email them at genealogy@glasgow.gov.uk
You used to have to book well in advance but these days, as they have more terminals, a couple of weeks is usually fine.
Regards,
Annette

Re: Mitchell library
You do have to book the the genealogy centre in level 3 at the Mitchell, however if you are looking to do other family history research, such as poor law records , post office directory, obituaries, voters roles, school admissions and many more....Level 2 at the Mitchell have all these records and you can search for free( making copies would be a small fee). This section is generaly opened Monday- Thursday 9.00am- 8.00pm( although poor law I think is opened till 5.00pm).

Re: Mitchell library
Thanks Rosie, I'll probably need to search on both floors, so I'll go ahead and make an appointment.
