Unless I totally missed it, there doesn't seem to have been a Beach Party this year. Now as I understand it, the Beach Party, with its Raffle Tickets, helped pay for the cost of running this forum. I have used this forum many times and have had many people help me and would like to help, in my own small way, with the upkeep of Talking Scot. Can I buy a few "Raffle Tickets", knowing that there won't be any prize?
Was there a Beach Party this year?

Re: Was there a Beach Party this year?
Hi Sheila
We decided not to have a beach party this year for several reasons. Firstly we had not long recovered from having to move the whole of the TS forum to a different server. It had been a tense time for all of us, and very time consuming and exhausting for Andrew who did all the hard work rebuilding the forum. The great benefit of this however was that we were able to have a gallery again!
One of the other reasons we felt we might give it a miss this year was because the TS funds, thanks to all our loyal members in previous years' tombolas, were healthy enough to pay our billls for another year.
Another reason was that the party would have been a bit of a wash-out because the weather in Scotland was absolutely awful this year - only kidding.
As you know the party is virtual. Sadly the weather this year was not, it was all too real
We will, I expect, discuss the possibilty of a beach party again next summer.
Best wishes
Lesley

Re: Was there a Beach Party this year?
Hi Lesley,
Thank you for answering my query.
I am sorry to hear that the weather in Scotland wasn't good this year. Was it to hot or to wet?
Congratulations to Andrew and all of the volunteers at TalkingScot for the great job that they are doing. =D>
All the best,
Thank you for answering my query.

Re: Was there a Beach Party this year?
Hi Sheila
It was, sadly, the wettest summer in Scotland since records began. And I believe also the dullest July. The north and Western Isles did a little better this year with some extended periods of sun.
I don't think we have ever encountered a summer where we could say it was too hot; we are too far north for that.
1976 was a cracker, but I don't remember it being "too hot" in Scotland, just a great summer...I wish we had more of those. For a very broad decription of Scottish weather e.g. see: http://www.holidayscotland.org.uk/artic ... eather.htm
"In summer in Scotland temperatures get slightly warmer reaching an average around 18-22degC during the day. Night time temperatures will usually drop to around 10degC"
(However, I'd not agree with the statement:
"We do get snow occasionally, but roads departments are well equipped to handle it and get most routes open quickly after a snowstorm. " hmmm....well equipped?? Open quickly?? I think not. )
Best wishes
