Re: Dumbarton Cooperative Choir 1940s/50s
Hello Annie,
I suppose that would be a choir made up of employees of a cooperative society? The thought just came to mind of what a shambles an uncooperative choir would be.
I didn’t find much in the newspapers.
Glasgow Herald - bus accident in 1929.

In the Scotsman and the Glasgow Herald you’ll find various Dumbarton Co-operative choirs mentioned in the results of the annual Glasgow Music Festival going back to at least 1921. It seems to have been held from the first Saturday in May. They don't look very interesting though. The Google News Archive search facility is next to useless. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=G ... de=2&hl=en
Evening Times - Conductor George C. McVicar in 1951. This newspaper doesn’t seem to be as much into choirs and things and is only available online from 1951. http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=0v ... tive&hl=en
Hope that’s useful,
Alan

Re: Dumbarton Cooperative Choir 1940s/50s
Thankyou Alan these wee snippets are compleatly fantastic,I can probably pull out more info using the names given. It all started because a housebound lady from Dumbarton wanted to know more about the choir as her mum had been a member. She had been it touch with both Dumbarton Library and Glasgows Womens Library but no one has anything or had been able to find anything .I said I would have a search around myself and put it out onto the forums. What you have found is very much appreciated. Thanks! Anne
