Hi, I am a student conducting a study on what people in Glasgow think about water, if you could fill in the survey it would really help me out. The survey focuses on water use and why people use bottled water.

Re: Glasgow - water survey
Best of luck with the survey, and Welcome to TalkingScot. I’m a bit far away to help unless someone will mail me some. My water supply comes off the roof and I really notice the chlorine taste when I try town water.
There’s an interesting analysis of “PUBLIC WELLS OF GLASGOW” in the Glasgow Herald, Friday, July 14, 1848.

I bet they would have appreciated some bottled water.
All the best,
Alan

I get the survey, but am not eligible as I don't stay in Glasgow.
The survey should also be reached by http://runtime.quicksurveys.com/tqsrunt ... Cr1/ROHv8=
Alan (Currie) - you wouldn't taste chlorine in Edinburgh's water these days. It is treated by ozone rather than chlorine.
All the best,

Water from your own roof is the best! We were on tank water for over twenty years on the farm. Then we sold up and moved into town. Town water is undrinkable without an added filter.

OOPS Sorry, I should have been more precise, it was the Glasgow Herald 1848 article link that the other Alan, from down under provided, that I can not access on this borrowed computer, that I'm using.AndrewP wrote:Hi Alan,Alan SHARP wrote:Greetings.

PS Some private wain water containment systems in Australia, and I suppose NZ are not so sweet. Especially in the dryer areas.

Re: Glasgow - water survey
Clearly the old local supply of water in Glasgow was hard. The introduction of the Loch Katrine supply must have been life transforming.
Glasgow has a superb water supply, and never having been daft enough to buy bottled water here, don't understand folk who do, advertising has a lot to answer for regarding this multi-million pound con.
Can't overstate the need to keep Scottish Water in public hands.
Johnnie.
