Ancestry DNA test
I was wondering if anyone here has had the Ancestry DNA testing done? If so, were the results as you expected? I have done it, and should have results in 3-5 weeks. Been watching You Tube clips of people in USA describing their results, and they all seem to be remarkably similar.

Re: Ancestry DNA test
Hi Orlaith,
I had a DNA done by Ancestry about three years ago. Got a lot of 5-6th cousins but none of this helped with my research, until recently I got a match for a fourth cousin which helped me break through my brick wall as we shared the same ggg grandparents. Just this past week I got a match that supposedly is a 3rd cousin but unfortunately this match doesn't have a family tree uploaded to ancestry and she hasn't responded to the message I sent her. I'm hoping that she will get back to me soon as I'm anxious to know who her gg grandparents were.
Regards,
Ina

Re: Ancestry DNA test
I have also had trouble getting people to respond on AncestryDNA. Many don't have trees posted, nor do they give their real names, so there is no way you can figure out who they are. On FamilyTreeDNA at least you get an email address for a contact and people usually use the actual name of the person who gave the sample. Each company has their strengths and weaknesses, but you can get the best of both databases by transferring your results to FamilyTreeDNA (only $39) after you get them from Ancestry. Then you'll be on both databases, increasing your pool of matches as well as your analysis tools.
Maybe you'll be related to both Ina and me and we'll simultaneously break down three brick walls

Sarah, One of these days we will break down that wall and find out our connection.
