Technology & Family Ties .....

Post by joette » Thu Oct 13, 2005 3:30 pm

I  when my sister gave me the update on her anticipated first grandchild. Her Daughter-in-law hails from the USofA & was around e-mailing her Mother(they are a an old-fashioned type young couple who married before they lived together & are still in the proccess of setting up a home so hence the Computerless home.)Her Mother told her to Web-Cam her stomach & that she wanted regular web-cam belly updates.
What a joy that despite the thousands of miles that lie between they can still share the excitement of a burgeoning tum in such a visible way.
I wonder what our ancestors thought of such innovations as photos- being able to gaze on a distant loved ones face.
I marvel at the bravery?foolhardiness? which sent them sailing from their beloved Scotland as they viewed the Tail o the Bank & similiar places knowing that for most of them that return was impossible or unlikely. That a beloved voice would not be heard again.
Now Amy & her Mom can speak weekly, visit as financial constraints allow & know that if worst came to worst they could be with each other within a day.The joy of the modern world. :)

We certainly have no excuse nowadays for not keeping in touch
