Finlaggan Single Malt.....

Post by SheriW » Sun Apr 09, 2006 7:23 pm

I'm wondering if anyone out there can help with some research I am doing on Finlaggan Single Malt Whisky, Islay. I live in Canada and belong to An Quaich, a single malt whisky tasting group. I am presenting Finlaggan at our upcoming meeting and the information I've found so far on the net is very limited and it isn't in Michael Jackson's fifth edition. Seems that the distillery that makes it is kept secret. Is this true? Does any have any 'inside' knowledge about this whisky or know where I can look further? Thanks for your help,
SheriW

Whisky

Hi Bob, Thanks for your response. That is the site that I found too but it still seems that the distillery is a mystery. It would be interesting if the whisky was made at different distilleries as the rumour suggests but who knows for sure? It sounds delightful, can't wait to taste it! :P

Sheri,

Look at this link http://www.maltwhiskey.com/html/islay.htm and go down to Lagavulin to the merchant bottlings.

It looks like Vintage Malt Whiskey Co is doing a merchant bottling. That is, he is buying in bulk casks and bottling under a different name.

In the first link I gave above is a supposed reply from the managing director of Vintage Malt Whiskey to the guestion of where the stock comes from. I have seen other references to the gentleman's name as being the managing director.

On this same page there is an interesting discussion on why merchant bottlings are not allowed.

Have fun tasting!

Hi Bob, Thanks so much for continuing your search. And, just the information that you have heard the Managing Director's name before helps to give his response some validity. I'll check out the site,
Sheri
