burial in Aberdeen ggg grandparents James and Susan Brannen

Post by Maggie64 » Mon Jun 12, 2006 3:18 pm

Hi everyone,
I wanted to let you know that I got reply from Aberdeen Archives. Pls read:

Dear Margaret,

Your enquiry regarding the burial place of James Brennen/Brannan was
passed onto ourselves from the Burials Department, and I apologise for
the delay in replying.

I can confirm that I found the following information:

James Brannen (sic) is buried in Nellfield Cemetery in Lair Number 980
in Section 3. He was buried on 16 August 1892, aged 64 years and was
resident at 80 Leadside Road.

He purchased the lair in January 1889, and on 16 January 1889, Susan
Peters or Brannen (sic), his wife, was buried, aged 62 years. Also in
the lair is their grandchild, James Brannen (sic), aged 1 year and 4
months. He was buried on 17 December 1889.

James Brannen's address at the time he purchased the lair is given as
14 Leadside Road, so I assume he moved at somepoint inbetween his wife's
death and his own.

I trust this information is of use to you, and please do not hesitate
to contact us with any further enquiries.

p.s. GGG grandparents's ages information on their death records are wrong because census showed their ages for example in 1841 in Montrose they were 20 years old with their son James 4 months old. other census 1881 in Aberdeen, old Machar the ages showed that they were 60 years old. If you know anything about this Brannen/Brannan family. Pls contact me. thank you Margaret from Canada.

Hi Maggie,

I'll second what Lesley said!

It's so nice to hear of someone getting positive useful information.

Now that you've got this info, why not stick a message on the Cemetery Board and see if someone would go and take a wee photo of the headstone for you. (If there is one)

It''s just a pity that I'm not near that area or I would have been first on the list to volunteer.

Burial in Aberdeen, James and Susan Brannen

Post by Maggie64 » Tue Jun 13, 2006 12:37 am

Hi everyone,
Thank you so much for your replies and I hope that one of you will visit cemetery and will take photograph of gravestone very soon. I do appreciate that very much. I am just curious if my ggg grandparent's home address in Leadside Road still there today in Aberdeen? or they are being knocked down?

Anybody live in Montrose??? I would like to have someone visit Rosehill cemetery to find my gggg grandparent's gravestone Edward Brannan, Isabella Rae, with their son Edward who was lost in Southern Ocean in August 1858. Edward (gggg grandfather) died in 1851, his wife Isabella Rae died in October 1864. It would be nice if someone take the photograph of the gravestone at Rosehill cemetery in Montrose.

Any information on Edward Brannan who was seaman and he was lost in Southern Ocean in 1858, do u think that he was drowned or frozen to death in Southern Ocean? Any ideas where did his ship come from? He used to live in Montrose with his wife Mary Middleton.

Any questions please feel free to ask me. I will try to answer your questions thanks again.
Margaret

As far as I am aware Leadside Road still exists and is in the district known as Rosemount. I don't know about then exact numbers where your ancestors lived. If I'm passing will have a look.
