Orphanage in Glasgow.....

Post by Skene Dhu » Fri May 19, 2006 8:31 pm

Hi all,

Does anyone know the name of the Female Catholic Orphanage that was in the Calton District of Glasgow, as I`m positive my Maternal Great Grandmother Mary Ann Dunn was an inmate there in 1891, the census page is under Calton (644) and the free header page only states it as Female Catholic Orphanage.

John

Researching : Connacher, Conacher, Blackley, Dunn, Rose, Frew, Innes, Cant, McCallum, Marr, Hutchison, Martin, Kay, Carmichael, Greig, Finlay, Legget, Shields, Cockburn, Rodger, Scantlebury and a great deal more

Hello John,

I think this has been discussed before on TS.
Have a read at this post - I'm pretty sure this is the place you are asking about.

Kind regards,

Thanks all,

Annette, thanks for the St. Marys link at Abercromby St. I`ll get in touch with them at admin@saintmarycalton.org.uk and see if they keep any records of the girls, I`m hoping to find who her parents were, as the parents on her marriage & death certificates (David Dunn, Carting Contractor & Elizabeth Smith) all come to dead ends, if she was Orphaned, she may not have known who the parents were.
