Saltcoats miners home.....

Post by karenc » Wed May 24, 2006 3:26 pm

Hi,

My Ggrandfather died in the miners home, canal street, saltcoats. this would have been in 1936.

Just wondered if anyone knew if the building is still standing or if anyone knows anything about the building. I also wondered where someone would be burried if they died there?

Thanks

Karen

Karen,

I remember visiting an elderly relative there in the sixties but have no knowledge of when it closed down etc

Your likeliest source of info is via CISWO (coal industry social welfare organisation) If you email Ian McAlpine at ian.mcalpine[AT]ciswo.org.uk he may be able to help you.

You may, of course, prefer to call personally;

Good luck

mac

Karen

Hello Karen,

I don't know if you'll find your answer here but this is an interesting site about Saltcoats. Maybe he was on holiday?

Miners Home

Post by chloejane » Mon Jul 30, 2007 6:24 am

I have recently been doing work on my family tree and was looking for some old photos of Saltcoats, I came across the National home for Miners, which is now used as a nursing home. I am sorry I have looked and looked to try and find where i found this picture, but cant find it again
Hope you find what your looking for. Cheers Marion

I'm afraid I can't find anything for them, but you could try putting a message on that Threetowners forum.

Maybe one of the members would have something or even take photos for you, if they still exist, that is.

Hi Chloejane

E-mail Jill McColl at localhistoryATnorth-ayrshire.gov.uk (replace AT with the usual). I was born and raised in Saltcoats and have found Jill and her team to be very helpful.
