Hi Wendy
For some reason I missed your post when it first came up and was trawling unanswered posts when I noticed it.
There may be no connection but my wife has a Richard Jamieson in her family tree from Carsphairn.
Richard b about 1806 married Janet (Jessie) Rowan in Dec 1862. He was a farmer at Holm of Daltullachan, Carsphairn at that time. He came to an untimely death a short 7 years later. His children were Richard b 1861, Robert b 1863, Jessie b 1865. John b 1867, another Jessie b 1867, Mary Jane b 1869.
So far we have not been able to trace him further back but the name was carried into the next generation so there is a distinct possibility of a link given the Scottish naming pattern.

Your famous Richard is well and truley in my family tree. He is the elder brother of my GG Grandfather (Robert b 1812 at Carsphairn).
Their parents were Robert Jamieson (b 1776 in Crawfordjohn) and Mary Wallace of Knockgray farm, Carsphairn (they had 12 children).
Robert b 1776 father was John Jamieson (b abt 1729) he married Christian Black. They had 9 children and lived in the Wandel, Lamington, Abington area.
John's parents were Richard Jamieson and Margaret Melross. They are buried at St Mary's church yard Biggar plot 33. I can't get back any further than this - hence my 'post'.
I can send you some information if you like. I have a copy of Richards will and a newspaper article about his mysterious death, which wasn't so mysterious in the end - just a bit of 'wobbly boot' after dinner with his friend the local doctor. I think there was 31 years age difference btw Jessie and Richard. Descendents of Richard's live in Tasmania, Australia.
