Hi All,
Can anyone help me with info on Dunfermline Poorhouse?
My Gt Aunt, Rebecca Hepburn Alexander, was born in Glasgow in 1883. In 1900 she died in Dunfermline Poorhouse of peritonitus aged 17 years. What has puzzled me for a long time, is why she was in Dunfermline, and why her death cert. shows both parents as deceased . Her mother, Susan, died in 1913, and her father, Robert, died in 1930.
I think there has to be a story and some sort of estrangement behind this one.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Christine.

Hi Christine
Have a look at this site for info:-
http://www.workhouses.org.uk/index.html ... line.shtml
You should also use the search button at the top of this page, search for Dunfermline poorhouse - the reason is that back in March 2006 someone else on TS asked about this, and you could get some more info from this post.

Hi Liz and Scott,
Many thanks for your replies.
Liz,
I had looked at this site before but it's always an interesting read. I obviously didn't look at it in length last time. I learned more this time.
Scott,
Thanks for pointing me towards that post. Just in the nick of time. Though I'm in the US, my best friend here comes from Glenrothes and her parents are coming over in a few weeks for Christmas. How's that for timing.
Again, Many Thanks to you both.
Christine.
