Following Annette M's assistance I have viewed the records relating to my granny at the Mitchell. They were completely fascinating - full of all sorts of data which might have gone undiscovered - not least an illegitimate child!
One thing that was not clear was the precise nature of the support she received. There are numerous entries of the style "6.10.01 20/- 3 months"
Does anyone know what the 3 months relates to?
It could be "here's 20/- go away and come back in 3 months" or
"we've decided to give you 20/- per ? and will review the position in 3 months" or any other number of permutations.
Any thoughts?
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Sorry you haven't had a reply before, but I've looked at my rellie's 1901 poor relief record and, judging by the dates of each entry on that, the period shown is indeed the length of time before the next assessment.
However, I'm not sure if the 8/- my rellie got was meant to last that long
or whether it was a weekly payment, and it is that which would be reviewed.
Hopefully, someone else might know more details.

20/- (£1) sounds a lot per week, so may have been per month, or even until the 3 month review, as the calculation to arrive at 20/- would take into account the support that could be provided by other family members.
