Cemetery - Old Monkland

I read an old thread that there was work in progress for old grave stones in Old Monkland.

The grave stone I am interested in would not be as old as the other thread.

All I know is that the person William Smith (common name) died between 1895 and 1901 and is buried in Old Monkland. He died in infancy.

With such little information can anyone give me any help. His sister was born in 1897 and address was Bailieston. Is that the same area. Also is there only one cemetery in Old Monkland.

If no one can help is it worth me phoning the council who would deal with this area.

Any help would be appreciated.

Baillieston came under the Parish of Old Monkland although Old Monkland was also actually the name of a village and is nowadays part of Coatbridge.

The Cemetery Records should be able to help you out with a Section and a Lair No. which would be a great help as Old Monkland Cemetery is huge - not the kind of place you'd easily find a stone if you didn't know where to look.

Did you know there are two Churchyards in Baillieston? One is St. John's Episcopal and the other is Baillieston Old Parish which is sometimes referred to as Crosshill.

I have burial records + MI's and photos for all the existing legible stones for both of these, so if you want any look ups, just say the word.

I recall a church yard with gravestones in Clarkston. on Edinburgh Road? and just East of Connor Street, theres a pub on the corner

But I believe it is an old kirkyard and burials stopped there a good while earlier but dont quote me on this I was only a wee boy

Not quite the Edinburgh Road (but it will get you there if you follow it), it's called the A89 (Edinburgh Road sounds much more romantic), it's in the extreme east end of Airdrie which leads to the outskirt villages of Plains and Caldercruix, this area would have fallen under the name of New Monkland.
