There are some names I cannot be sure of, nor find any records of.

Hi Dennis,

What I see there is:
  • 1869 on the sixteenth day of October at Ealglesham
after Banns according to the Forms of the Roman Catholic Church
Charles Kerr, his X-mark, labourer, widower, age 40, of Tofts, Mearns
Ellen McLaghlan, her X-mark, bleachfield worker, age 35, of Tofts, Mearns
    parents:
    John Kerr, hawker
    Rosie Kerr, ms. Maguire, deceased
    James McLaghlan, labourer, deceased
    Margare McLaghlan, ms. Cain, deceased
    solemnised by: Mick Cronin
    witness: Michel Moloy
    witness: Elizabeth McLaghlan, her X-mark
    registered: October 20th at Eaglesham
    Thos B Yuill, Registrar
Tofts can be found between Eaglesham and Mearns, within Eaglesham parish on the map at http://www.nls.uk/digitallibrary/map/ea ... _list.html if you select Map 22 (Kilmarnock). On the map, zoom in on Eaglesham parish - the one coloured green near the top-right corner. Tofts can be found near the north of that parish, by the road from Eaglesham to Mearns.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

I had a look at the image, (without peeking at Andrews result). :) I need the practice.

All I can say is 10/10 for Andrew.

All the best

Hi Dennis, I have found them in Ireland under that spelling.I have them in my tree as well with Keir's and McLauchlan's as the spelling. As I go back it changes to the Kerr and Maclaghlan spelling.

Census 1861

Post by Jack » Tue Jun 07, 2005 6:05 pm

Hi Dennis,

Can't see a Charles KERR to suit in Renfrewshire (or Ayshire or Lanarkshire) 1851 census.
Nor Helen FISHER in these censuses either - only possible being an 18yr old house servant (not with parents) in Carnwath - she was born Symington, LKS.

What were their marriage details on son Patrick's 1861 BC? Or are there none shown in that year?
--
1861 cens 573 Ed 26 p 17 (High - Martyrs)
29 Maxwellton St, Paisley.
Charles KERR, head, widower, 26, ironstone miner, b Ireland
Patrick KERR, son, under 1mo [?] ----- b Paisley, RFW
--
So seems Charles was Irish - maybe Helen too?

Jack

edited to include Charles' age - i'd omitted it.

Hi Dennis,

So Helen FISHER may have been a Lanarkshire girl, and i dare say you've already looked at this from the IGI.
Coatbridge was in the Old Monkland parish.
--
CHARLES CARR
HELEN FISHER
Marriage: 23 OCT 1853 Old Monkland, Lanark, Scotland
--
But a different year (OPR will need to be checked) - and can't see this couple as CARR or KERR in 1861 Lanarkshire census.

Hi Jack.

Helen Fisher died in March of 1861 so that may explain the census issue ( I don't know when the census was done ).
